“Fathers, it turns out, contribute far more to their children than many of us realize.” That is a quote from Paul Raeburn. He is the author of the 2014 book, “Do Fathers Matter? What Science is Telling Us About the Parent We’ve Overlooked.” The book found that society doesn’t always take into account all the many ways that dads contribute to the well-being of their children. The book was a 2015 National Parenting Publications Awards Gold Winner and a Mom’s Choice Awards Gold Medal Winner.

Isn’t it interesting when we recognize the truth of the Bible in life. God has, from the very beginning, understood and valued the role of fathers in the family. After all God is the creator and designer of the family and when God speaks we need to listen and when He commands we need to obey.

This Sunday is Father’s Day I want to encourage the fathers reading this about the important role they have in the lives of their children. God says fathers are important and have a tremendous impact on their children.

Whatever life situation you currently have with your children (and it isn’t always the situation we had planned or hoped it would be) you play a critical role in you children’s life.

The Bible says:

Proverbs 1:8 – Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

Proverbs 4:1 – Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.

Proverbs 13:1 – A wise son heeds his father’s instruction…

Proverbs 15:5 – A fool spurns his father’s discipline…

Proverbs 23:22   Listen to your father, who gave you life.

Ephesians 6:4 – Father’s, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Fathers you are important because God has designed it to be just that way and His Word declares it to be so. Don’t believe the lie that says you are expendable. Don’t believe the lie that says your role in the family is optional. Don’t believe the lie that says you are not necessary.

A father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and unappreciated heroes in all society, but a father is never unnecessary.
